Avonmore Big Picnic for Barretstown

(04 Jul 2010)

The sun has come out just in time for the launch of the second annual ‘Avonmore Big Picnic for Barretstown’. The campaign is encouraging everyone, whether it is individuals, families, schools or companies across Dublin to have a picnic this summer and raise much needed funds for Barretstown.  In addition, Avonmore will match every €1 raised by consumers’ picnics in 2010*.  To get involved log on to www.sendmorefamilies.com and sign up for your free Avonmore Big Picnic pack.

Last year there were picnics held all over Dublin raising anything from €50 to €5,000. The money raised will help send more families to Barretstown and also provide much needed equipment and resources to help run their family camps, which take place every year.  A mere €20 could contribute to the cost of recruiting and training Barretstown’s dedicated volunteers, of which 700 are needed every year. An achievable €50 could buy a supply of face paints for Barretstown’s arts and crafts and drama programme. In fact raising €350 could help pay for a child to come to Barretstown for a whole day.

Raising funds couldn’t be easier! Simply:

Visit your local store and pick up an Avonmore milk carton for more details about this initiative

  1. Log on to www.sendmorefamilies.com or call 1850 927 875 to sign up for your free Avonmore Big Picnic for Barretstown picnic pack. This is full of hints and tips on how to host a picnic and create a fun day for a worthy cause!
  2. Invite friends and family to your Avonmore Big Picnic for Barretstown and get donations from everyone who comes along. Donations can be made on the day or in advance. Why not organise some games at your Big Picnic for Barretstown to raise extra money?
  3. Send all money raised to Barretstown and let them know how your Big Picnic for Barretstown went.

Barretstown plays a different but nonetheless important role in the recovery process for children recovering from serious illnesses such as cancer. Where a hospitals primary focus is on the physical effects of serious illness, Barretstown helps to heal the emotional scars by providing a unique Therapeutic Recreation programme through a fun, activity based process of challenge, success, reflection and discovery - backed by the medical world - which helps children affected by cancer and other serious illnesses and their families regain their confidence and self-esteem.

Since June 2008, Avonmore has actively promoted Barretstown on every pack throughout the Avonmore Milk range, including Fresh Milk, Supermilk, and Low Fat Milk, thereby raising awareness of Barretstown’s work and inviting customers to contribute to the €2 million target. Avonmore also continues to drive significant awareness of the Avonmore Big Picnic for Barretstown through its sponsorship of RTE Weatherline, which 89% of all adults will see over the campaign period.

Picnic season has arrived. So no matter what the weather, indoors or outdoors, get picnicking this summer and raise much needed funds for Barretstown.
